A recent article on RISMedia provides an end-of-summer checklist that details a list of maintenance tasks for home sellers to consider in order to prepare their listed properties for the colder weather months.

The following are 5 things that home sellers should do before the cold weather strikes:
1) Outdoor Painting
The rain, wind, sun, hail, and other elements can do a number on the exterior paint of any home. Home sellers should touch up the exterior of their houses and scrape away any flaking paint or rough spots.
2) Exterior Caulking and Sealing
It is very important that all windows and doors are properly sealed before the cold weather arrives. Any leaks or cracks will cause higher heating bills, which of course causes more stress!
3) Concrete / Asphalt Patching
It is a good idea to patch any asphalt or concrete at least once every other year, in order to prevent further damage. There are many affordable products at your local home improvement store specifically designed for the DIY-er to easily patch any cracks or rough spots.
4) Patio & Deck Maintenance
Sellers should take a look for any rotting or cracking boards in wooden decks, or any cracked or missing bricks in brick patios. These structures can fail, causing serious injuries if they are not properly maintained.
5) Landscaping
It is amazing what a properly landscaped front / back yard can do for the appearance of a home. There are many landscaping companies that offer Fall specials to help get your yard ready for the coming cooler weather.
Completing these 5 tasks while the weather is still warm will keep your listed property looking great going into the colder months, and increase your chances of attracting more Buyers!
